Why do people feel compelled to pressed the call button for the elevator when I've clearly already done so? This behavior just annoys me to no end.
Today, I walked out to the elevator bank and press the down button. Then another gentleman comes along, looks at the already lit down button and presses it again. Apparently he didn't trust me to do it right.
The same thing happens on the way down. I've already pressed the button for the lobby. Everyone in the elevator is going to the lobby. But someone gets on at the 10th floor, looks at the buttons and then presses "L" again, even though it is clearly already selected.
I'm not really sure what these people are thinking. Do they think that this entire elevator full of people didn't know how to properly operate it? That we just hang out in the elevator riding it up and down until some good Samaritan came along to press the button for us?
I would say that about 25-35% of the people who work in this buidng are compulsive button pressers. About 25% of those are of the variety that press the button 4 or 5 times, in an apparent attempt to make the elevator move faster.
Now, as I've said previously, I don't have a lot of faith and trust in my fellow human beings either, seeing as how they are mostly idiots. But even I don't feel compelled to repeat the task of elevator button pushing just to make sure that they did it right. I mean the little light came on. What more can you do?
