Yesterday, I was listening to This American Life online while working when Martha started yelling at me.

Martha: Hey, mutant!

Me: What?

Martha: Do you have any mail going out?

Me: No. What did you call me?

Martha: A mutant! You're like a mutant when you're listening to that stuff. You never respond to anything.

Me: Do you mean I'm mute? A mute person can't speak, that's different from a mutant.

Martha: Wait, what?

Me: A person who can't or doesn't speak is mute.

Martha: Right, you're a mutant.

Me: No, a mutant would be someone with a mutation... a change in their genetic code not inherited from the parents. It is not the same as being mute.

Martha: Whatever, you mutant.
